We’re figured that it’s about time we write a nice little guide for those of you out there who own the first generation Apple TV device. The first generation is actually considered by many to be the more powerful of the ATV model lineup, because of the fact that it has more hardware power and the software is based on Mac OS (similar to that of a computer) rather than the iOS (what powers iPhones and iPads) mobile operating system. Many people go ahead and actually install Mac OS on their Apple TV and along with some Bluetooth accessories use it similar to a Mac Mini computer.
HOW TO JAILBREAK THE FIRST GENERATION APPLE TV DEVICE
- First Generation Apple TV (factory restored & updated with latest firmware)
- ATV USB Creator Software Application
- Formatted 1 GB USB Thumb Drive (Mac OS Extended Journaled)
Step 1: Plug the pre-formatted “USB Thumb Drive” into your computer.
Step 2: Extract and Launch the “ATV USB Creator” software application you just downloaded.
Step 3: Press the “Create Using ->” button at the bottom left of application and wait a few minutes for the progress to take place.
Step 4: Once the progress bar is full and the last line in the text box says “Complete!” go ahead and Unplug the USB Thumb Drive from your computer.
Step 5: Unplug the Power Supply from the back of your Apple TV 1 device, then plug the USB Thumb Drive into the back of your device, then replug the Power Supply.
Step 6: Wait a few minutes for the process to complete, you’ll be seeing all kinds of technical jargon floating down the screen.
Step 7: Once complete, unplug the Power Source, Remove the USB Flash Drive, and Replug the Power Source.
Step 8: Configure your Wireless Internet connection if applicable, under the “Settings” -> “Network” -> “Configure WiFi” menu.
Step 9: Under the “Launcher” menu, click the “Downloads” menu option.
Step 10: Click the “Launcher 3.2.5″ item to update it to the latest software version.
Step 11: Under the “Launcher” menu, click the “Settings” option.
Step 12: Make sure that the “ATV OS Update enabled” is Set to “No” to ensure Apple doesn’t push any updates you don’t want.
Congratulations! You’ve now Jailbroken your First Generation Apple TV unit, it’s about time. You’ll probably now want to go ahead and install other cool features like XBMC (Launcher -> Downloads -> Click XBMC) and other cool software. Don’t have too much fun now.
