There’s a specific process that is ideal to follow in order to flash custom IPSW firmware files to your Apple TV 2 device using iTunes for Windows. Many people probably get away with doing a slightly quicker method that doesn’t involve what’s called Pwned DFU Mode, but this is the best way to ensure a problem free restore of your unit.

- Latest Version of iTunes Software
- iFaith for Windows
- Custom Signed Firmware File
- Micro USB Cable
- Apple TV 2 Device
Step 1: Plug your Apple TV 2 device into your computer via Micro USB cable and verify that the light on the front of the device is blinking.
If the device’s light is not blinking, you’ll need to jumpstart is by plugging it into its Power Cable for 15 Seconds first.

Step 2: Launch “iTunes” software application on your computer.

Step 3: Press and Hold both the “MENU” and “DOWN” buttons at the same time on your Remote Control for 30 Seconds (while pointing at device), then release.

Step 4: Wait a few seconds until the previous iTunes Apple TV screen reappears, then Press and Hold both the “MENU” and “PLAY/PAUSE” buttons at the same time on your Remote Control for another 30 Seconds, then release.

Step 5: Close iTunes and Launch the “iFaith” software application and Press the “Use DFU Pwner (iREB)” button.

Step 6: Click the “Yes” button option when asked whether you are working with an Apple TV 2 device.

Step 7: Immediately press the “Start” button at the bottom, ignore the instructions on the current screen.

Step 8: Click on the “OK” button once the message that your device is in a “PWNED DFU state” appears within the application.

Step 9: Exit iFaith and Relaunch “iTunes” software application right away.

Step 10: Hold the “Shift” button on your Keyboard and Press the “Restore” button in iTunes.

Step 11: Open the Custom Signed Firmware file. If you just created it, it should still be located on your Desktop.

Step 12: Wait a few minutes while iTunes restores the Custom Firmware to your Apple TV 2 device.

Step 13: Press the “OK” button once completed, Unplug the Device, and Exit the iTunes application.

Congratulations! Your Apple TV 2 device has now been successfully restored with your Custom Firmware file. You can now plug it into your television and do whatever you see fit. Remember, a jailbroken device is a happy device.
