Every so often Apple releases what we call a landmark firmware upgrade and stops signing older versions of their device firmware in efforts to force product owners to upgrade to the latest firmware version should they ever need to factory restore or reflash their device. The only way to reflash older firmware versions once Apple ceases to sign them, is if you have already previously saved your SHSH Blobs from the device. It is very important to have these files saved, should you wish to downgrade or restore your device in the future.
SAVING APPLE TV 2 SHSH BLOBS WITH IFAITH
for Windows
Requirements
- iFaith for Windows
- Micro USB Cable
Step 1: Launch iFaith and press “OK” once you’ve read the entry message.

Step 2: Click on the “Dump SHSH Blobs” button.

Step 3: Press the “Proceed” button once you’ve read the warning message.

Step 4: On the next prompt, press the “Let’s Go!” button to continue.

Step 5: Select “Yes” when asked whether you are dumping an Apple TV 2 device.

Step 6: Plug the Micro USB cable from your computer into your Apple TV 2 device.

Step 7: Press the “Start” button once you see the light blinking on your Apple TV 2.
Should the light not turn on, you’ll need to jumpstart it by plugging it into the Power Cord for 15 Seconds and then replugging it into the Micro USB cable.

Step 8: Follow the On Screen prompts carefully in order to Enter DFU Mode.

Step 9: Wait about a minute while iFaith dumps your SHSH Blobs from the Apple TV 2 unit.

Step 10: Choose a location to save the SHSH blobs backup file to when prompted. We recommend saving it to a designated folder on your Desktop, named “ATV” for example.

Step 11: After a few seconds, the process will complete and you’ll be notified by a popup prompt. Just press “OK” and then Disconnect the Apple TV 2 device.

Congratulations! You’ve successfully managed to backup your SHSH Blobs which will be very useful in the situation when Apple stops signing your current firmware version, or should you wish to perhaps downgrade back to your current version in the future. Regardless, hold onto those files like gold, or prepare to suffer the consequences.
